چکیده
In many centers , MR has become the imaging study of choice for evaluating diseases of the pituitary [1] . The diagnosis of pituitary adenoma is confirmed by showing a gland that is more than 1 0 mm in height with or without associated sellar deformity and deplacement of the pituitary stalk. We report a case of a hypothyroid patient with elevated levels of serum prolactin and a homogeneously enlarged pituitary gland mimicking a pituitary adenoma on T1-weighted (TR/ TE = 600/20) MR images. The pituitary enlargement and hyperprolactinemia resolved after thyroid hormone replacement. To our knowledge, this is the first case for which MR depiction of pituitary hyperplasia and subsequent regression after thyroid replacement therapy has been described.

Low Growth Hormone Levels in Short-Stature Children with Pituitary Hyperplasia Secondary to Primary Hypothyroidism
Objective. The follow-up of GH levels in short-stature children with pituitary hyperplasia secondary to primary hypothyroidism (PPH) is reported in a few cases. We aimed to observe changes in GH secretion in short-stature children with PPH. Methods. A total of 11 short-stature children with PPH accompanied by low GH levels were included. They received levothyroxine therapy after diagnosis. Thei...
متن کاملPituitary hyperplasia in children with short stature and primary hypothyroidism.
We present eight cases with short stature, pituitary hyperplasia, and hypothyroidism. Pituitary hyperplasia due to primary hypothyroidism was diagnosed on the basis of clinical manifestations, endocrine examination and MRI. After 2 to 6 months of L-thyroxine replacement therapy, the signs of hypothyroidism disappeared; free triiodothyronine, free thyroxine, thyrotropin and prolactin became norm...
متن کاملPituitary hyperplasia: a complication of the pseudomalabsorption of thyroxine
OBJECTIVE "The pseudomalabsorption of thyroxine" has been used to describe patients with hypothyroidism who fail to comply with their treatment. We describe a unique case of a 32-year-old with hypothyroidism who developed pituitary hyperplasia and hyperprolactinemia secondary to the pseudomalabsorption of thyroxine. INVESTIGATIONS AND TREATMENT After baseline thyroid-function tests were perfo...
متن کاملPituitary hyperplasia: an uncommon presentation of a common disease
UNLABELLED A 21-year-old woman presented with amenorrhea, bilateral galactorrhea and fatigue. Visual acuity and visual fields were normal. Laboratory examination demonstrated hyperprolactinemia. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the pituitary showed a 19×17×12-mm sellar mass with supra- and parasellar extension, causing compression of the pituitary stalk and optic chiasm. Further examinations...
